What You Need To Know About Government Grant Applications
There is a lot of confusing information out there about the application process for getting government money. I hope the information presented below will clear up much of the misinformation that is presented by those who profit from confusion and misunderstanding.
1) Where Are The Applications?
There are thousands of money programs available and every office that hands out money has a different application. So, what you need to do is to first locate the office that you think is a good source to apply to and request a copy of their application. Some offices have the applications online where you can simply fill in the blanks and send. Some have online applications that you download and print out and fill in the blanks and mail or fax in. And some will send you the paperwork to fill out.
2) Will I Need Help Filling Out An Application?
The answer to this is going to be NO for 80% of the applications that are out there for you to get free money. The only applications for free money that can be complicated are those for non-profit organizations. So if you are not a non-profit organization, don’t worry about filling out an application until you get a copy of the application because 4 out of 5 times it’s going to be simple: a couple of pages of fill in the blanks.
3) What Should I Ask For When I Contact An Office?
Never ask for a “grant.” This is because 80% of all the free money that the government and others give away is not even called “grants.” The free money can be called direct payments, loans you don’t have to pay back, venture capital or other bureaucratic euphemisms. So, if you think you know what you are doing and call an office looking for “grants,” you’ll be missing 80% of available free money. 6) Will The Office Giving Out The Money Give Me Help Filling Out The Application?
Yes, they will help. That is part of their job. How much actual help they will provide will varies from office to office. If they are not helpful enough, contact an office of their superior or the office of your elected official for that level of government. 7) Can I See Copies Of Successful Applications?
Yes, of course. Remember anything the government does, it does in your name (as long as we remain a democracy). So when the government gives out money it is really giving out your money and you have a right to see how they are giving it out. This includes seeing copies of past applications. In order to protect the privacy of individuals, the government may delete some of the applicant’s personal information before they show you a copy. But that’s OK. All that you really need will still likely be there. If you are going to be involved in one of these activities then you MIGHT want to consider becoming a non-profit. But, start looking for money first, before you invest in becoming a non-profit. You might be able to get the money you need without being a non-profit. So why waste the time and money before you know for sure? Wait till you find someplace that looks like a good place to get your money and find out if their requirements include you becoming a non-profit. That is the time to become one.
9) Do I Have To Pay Back A Grant?
NO. NO. NO. Grants, direct payments, and other free money available from government offices and non-profit organizations do not have to be paid back, EVER.
10) Can I Apply For More Than One Grant?
You certainly can apply to more than one of anything. The worst that can happen is that you apply to 12 places and 12 places give you money, and some of them say you have to give the money back if you get it from another source. This is a nice problem.
11) Can I Apply To The Same Place Twice?
Yes. And this is true whether you get the money or not. Some believe that there are even offices that will reject you automatically on your first attempt just to make sure you are serious. But there are other programs that give out one grant per customer. The best advice is to just keep applying until they tell you to stop.
12) Do I Have To Pay Taxes On A Grant?
As a general rule the answer is no, and you can always find out the exact answer when you find a program you wish to apply for. If the money is for business or for operating income for any organizations what you spend the money on will all be expensed before you pay taxes. Most free money for education and training is not taxable. And most free money used to pay expenses is also tax free. There are some exceptions to this personal expense money, but you will be notified well ahead a time if this is the case.
13) Do I Have To Have Good Credit To Get A Grant?
Normally credit rating does not matter. Why would they worry about how you are at paying back your loans? They don’t want this money back. The government will even give you grant money to pay for college courses while you are in jail, but they won’t give you a college loan.

Start Logic Hosting is a rip off!!
If you are looking for a good affiliate program for web hosting, DO NOT pin your hopes on this company. A friend of mine did- she sold 7 accounts to classmates of hers, and almost lost them until she could document and prove that she actually spoke to the people.
But the latest kick in the head came recently. Her commissions were way up- into the $5000 range. Then, Start Logic sent her the following email:
"Dear {name deleted},
Thank you for contacting StartLogic technical support.
I'm afraid we have some disappointing news on this front. You probably realised there was a remarkable spike in your affiliate sales. That raised flags in our accounting department, and on further investigation, we discovered that they were all due to a salesman here who had apparently not cleared his browser out, and as a result, all his subsequent sales were being mistakenly credited to your affiliate.
We've confirmed this using the IP address which uniquely identifies the computer used to place the orders, and they all track back to the same location. Unfortunately, as a result, they do not qualify as legitimate affiliate sales, and so we are unable to process payment for these. I apologize very deeply for any inconvenience this may cause, and we have taken appropriate action to prevent any re-occurrence. Please let us know if we can help you in any other way.

Even if he did, how did it get applied to phone orders?
And, why did they have to research by IP? How come the sales rep didn't have his ID on them from him entering them in to the system?
I do customer service work for a living, and every order I enter or every time I even touch an account to render customer service, it is branded with my user ID and the time.
So I want to issue this warning to all aspiring affiliate marketers. This company will steal your commissions. Do not waste your time and your space on your virtual real estate!

In the future, thanks to advances in personal computing and Internet connectivity, more and more people will be working at home. While there are some obvious benefits to this arrangement, such as gasoline cost savings and the ability to devote more of the workweek to bidding on Battlestar Gallactica memorabilia, there is a dark side as well: working at home greatly reduces the opportunities for office romance.
Gone are the liquor-fueled holiday parties and the team-building retreats that have traditionally served as the tinderboxes for employee-on-employee passion. Gone, too, are the monthly budget meetings, where passed notes and stolen glances often lead to more -- so much more. Lonely and isolated, the home-based employee will start looking for love in all the wrong places. And therein lies the ugly truth of working at home: when you're your own boss, you have no one to sexually harass but yourself.
Consider my story a cautionary tale. When I got the opportunity to start working at home a couple of years ago, I jumped at the chance, envisioning the huge spike in productivity that would naturally result from not having to shave or put on pants. In those early, innocent days, I was putting in robust eight-hour workdays, interrupted only by lunch and semi-hourly visits to YouTube. But then, after three days of this happy routine, everything changed in an instant. After using the bathroom one morning, I caught sight of myself in the mirror and, almost without thinking, I uttered these two fateful words: "Looking good."
When I got back to my desk, I was rattled. Perhaps my comment to myself in the bathroom had merely been friendly, but a part of me felt that it was inappropriate. And that come-hither expression on my face was unmistakable: I had seen it many times before, most notably on my Match.com profile. No, there could be little doubt: I was my own boss, and I was hitting on myself.
Feelings of unease soon gave way to other feelings -- feelings of shame. Had I, as my own boss, created a hostile work environment for myself? Or had I, as my own employee, "asked for it" by showing up to work wearing nothing but underwear? Making matters worse, I had no one to turn to in my hour of torment. One thing they don't tell you when you decide to work at home: in addition to being your own boss, you're your own H.R. person.
Trapped in a hell of my own creation, I had no choice but to downsize myself and outsource my job to India. As draconian as that solution might sound, it felt then, and still feels today, like the only way out. At this very moment, I am probably sexually harassing myself in an industrial park in Bangalore, but at least I don't have to know about it.

Not very long after, they found out that they’ve lost the money they worked so hard for.
For this reason, care must be taken when choosing a home based business opportunity. It is easy to get tempted with instant money-making schemes. But don’t be fooled. For instance, there are multi-level marketing schemes that do not even have any product to sell. Your income solely depends on the registration fees from new members. Another common home business scam is envelope stuffing. Usually, you are required to give an upfront fee in order to receive your tasks. Obviously, if you have to pay for an upfront fee there is a great risk that you are being scammed.
Watch Out From Other Scams!
Be particularly wary of gambling scams that claim to increase your chances of winning the lottery if you buy your lottery tickets online instead of from regular lottery booths. Most of these scams are designed to collect money from unsuspecting people.
Also, watch out for new businesses that sell products that are not proven to be efficient. For example, some products claim to bring wondrous results. However, see to it that these products have been approved by the national organizations especially if it’s health product or a beauty product. You wouldn’t want to be involved in a business that sells damaging or harmful products.
There are indeed legitimate home business opportunities out there. If you do sufficient research before signing up for a business, you can find a legitimate source of income for you and your family. One way to make sure is by checking from the Better Business Bureau about the reputation of the company. If there have been complaints in the past, then definitely you should back out immediately. However, if there are no complaints against that particular business, it does not mean you can let your guard down and accept the offer right away. Do extensive research on the company’s background.
Another important thing to consider when joining home based businesses is to choose the one that matches your skills and knowledge. If you have the knowledge and if you enjoy the work you’re doing, you will not easily give up and have more chances to succeed.
